2007 Buick LaCrosse – transaxle fluid dipstick types

Dear Doctor: Someone replaced the original automatic transaxle fluid dipstick on my 2007 Buick LaCrosse 3.8L with one that has a maximum crosshatched area only at the end. Is it good to use this type of dipstick for checking automatic transaxle fluid? This new dipstick is round like a wire, except the crosshatched area, which is flat like the original dipstick. Edwin

Dear Edwin: As long as the full level marks are correct with the correct amount of fluid, you may use either type of dipstick. Remember, dipstick reads will differ slightly. Fluid level will also differ when hot or cold, as well as the angle of the vehicle when measuring the readings.
