2002 Pontiac Grand Prix key cylinder removal

Dear Doctor: I cannot remove the key from the ignition switch on my 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix. The battery drains completely dead overnight, unless I disconnect the positive post or the negative post. Do I have to remove the steering wheel, complete ignition assembly and key tumbler and replace with new ones? Can you give me a resource that would give me instructions to correct this problem? Richard

Dear Richard: Some ignition cylinder removals can be done with the removal of the lower inspection cover and the use of a small pin to release the lock pin in the key cylinder. Note: the key has to be correct and the cylinder must be able to turn. I recommend you subscribe to www.alldata.com for detailed instructions for key cylinder removal. You will be able to download everything that you could ever want for your vehicle, including pictures and diagrams.
